The present study surveys the significant body of research on the topic generated by the Regional Research Committee for Financing Agriculture in a Changing Environment: Macro, Market, Policy, and Management Issues, and its predecessors. For this purpose, risk management strategies are classified into two main categories, namely, “within-firm” strategies and “risk-sharing” strategies. Given the literature examined here and the recent developments that have occurred in the U.S. agricultural sector, the present study identifies a number of research topics worthy of attention for future research in the field.
