Abstract

Koncepcja kapita³u spo³ecznego staje siê coraz bardziej popularna. Abstract The aim of the article is to present an approach to the measurement of social capital and the results of its application. Since the notion and the methods of measurement of social capital has not been yet definitely established, author tries to adapt the approach proposed by van Oorschot, Arts and Gelissen (van Oorschot 2006). Firstly, their conceptual model of social capital is presented. Secondly, it is verified whether the Social Diagnosis survey is a good source of indicators of social capital. Thirdly, the measurement models for dimensions of social capital (networks, trust and norms) are presented and estimated. Fourthly, the changes in dimensions of social capital between 2005 and 2007 and 2009 are assessed. Finally, the global model of social capital is estimated. The results show that the dimensions of social capital can be operationalised and quantified following the modified approach proposed by van Oorschot, Arts and Gelissen (van Oorschot 2006) and using data from Social Diagnosis survey. However it is not possible to reliably calculate the aggregate index of social capital.
