This paper attempts to make a plea against any simplistic notion that reducing the minimum wage or real wages will in any automatic sense create sustainable employment and social integration of young people in the labour market and society. The various other levers of economic and social policy will need to be fully exploited if decision-makers are to meet with any success in addressing youth unemployment.
