Countries within the European Union are showing rising concern over the high rates of unemployment for people with disabilities and have made concerted efforts to develop policies which better ensure the integration of these individuals into the open labour market. Research has shown that a large number of people with disabilities are excluded from employment because of their inadequate or inappropriate education and training, combined with inaccessibility to the work place and ongoing stereotypes assumed by employers and educators.
