    Abstract

    El propósito de este documento es el de examinar algunas hipótesis centrales sobre las causas y los determinantes de la pobreza, así como las razones detrás de los cambios de la pobreza a través del tiempo, en la Región de Centroamérica. Hay dos aspectos que distinguen el estudio. Primero, es la información de que disponemos, un juego único de datos para toda la región centroamericana (menos Belice), que reúne información secundaria, de individuos, de hogares y del Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) sobre indicadores de sustentabilidad. El segundo aspecto que distingue el estudio es el marco conceptual que involucra, de acuerdo con lo que se está denominando "el enfoque territorial del desarrollo rural", una atención adicional a las variables espaciales y del entorno de los individuos y sus hogares.
