    Abstract

    En los últimos años, Centroamérica, Panamá y República Dominicana han sido sujetos de una expansión del crédito con garantías hipotecarias, lo que ha dado lugar a la iniciativa denominada la "hipoteca centroamericana". Este proyecto permitirá utilizar propiedades como colateral en cualquiera de los países suscritos a la iniciativa, lo que redundará en grandes beneficios para la región, especialmente en términos de una mejora de la oferta crediticia y un mayor desarrollo del sector financiero, si se realiza de forma adecuada y se fortalecen a las instituciones críticas que posibilitan este desarrollo. La presente nota técnica tiene como objetivo responder a las preguntas: ¿qué es la hipoteca centroamericana?, ¿qué se necesita para su implementación? y ¿qué beneficios puede conllevar para la región?
