Abstract

Das Mitbestimmungsgesetz ist 30 Jahre nach seiner Verabschiedung Gegenstand sowohl einer wissenschaftlichen als auch einer politischen Debatte. Gegenstand des vorliegenden Beitrags ist das Verhältnis dieser beiden Diskurse. Dazu wird zunächst der Stand der empirischen Mitbestimmungsforschung skizziert und anschließend die massenmediale Öffentlichkeit als eine zentrale Determinante der politischen Entscheidungsfindung in modernen Demokratien beschrieben. Danach folgt das Design einer Inhaltsanalyse, die die Interpretationsschemata von Mitbestimmung im Diskurs der deutschen Presse zwischen 1998 und 2007 erfassen soll. Die Ergebnisse dieser Analyse lassen eine auffällige Diskrepanz zwischen den Ergebnissen der empirischen Sozialforschung und den Wahrnehmungsmustern der Massenmedien erkennen, deren Implikationen zuletzt diskutiert werden.
