La question démocratique au sein des banques coopératives en mutation : diagnostic pluridisciplinaire et proposition d'orientations

Abstract

La question démocratique est devenue d'une actualité brûlante au sein des banques coopératives depuis la fin des années 1990. Elément fondateur des organisations à tailles humaines que furent les premières caisses mutuelles ou coopératives, la démocratie ne risque-t-elle pas de se dissoudre par la force des choses dans ces géants matures et hybrides que sont devenus les grand groupes bancaires coopératifs ? Le présent article se veut une synthèse pluridisciplinaire permise par la rencontre de trois chercheurs étudiant l'objet banque coopérative sous trois angles complémentaires : le droit, l'économie et la gestion. Après un premier recensement des symptômes possibles de l'effacement de la démocratie inhérente au projet coopératif, un diagnostic plus nuancé est proposé, à la suite duquel sont esquissées quelques pistes de travail pour une évolution inventive de la démocratie coopérative.
