Les origines des économies de gamme et des économies d'échelle dans l'agriculture française

Abstract

L'analyse est centrée sur la contribution des principaux facteurs de production aux économies d'échelle, qui incitent les exploitations agricoles à s'agrandir, et aux économies de gamme qui les incitent à associer les productions. Pour ce faire, l'évolution de l'agriculture française est interprétée par la théorie des marchés contestables. En comparant la contribution des exploitations agricoles associant les cultures et l'élevage aux productions animales et végétales totales, et l'évolution des prix des facteurs de production, cette approche permet de préciser le rôle de ces facteurs dans la technologie agricole. Ainsi la diminution de la contribution des exploitations agricoles diversifiées à la production végétale serait due à l'augmentation du prix du travail, source d'économies d'échelle dans la production végétale, et à la diminution des prix de la terre et des biens agricoles intermédiaires, sources d'économies de gamme entre les productions animales et végétales.
