Abstract

L'organisation des mères de jeunes enfants entre vie professionnelle et vie familiale prend des formes très diverses selon les caractéristiques des familles et le contexte dans lequel elles ont réalisé leurs choix. L'étude des raisons de recours aux modes de garde évoquées par les familles conduit à une remise en cause des analyses économiques traditionnelles basées sur un arbitrage financier : les choix découlent avant tout d'une demande de qualité des services de garde en vue de l'épanouissement de l'enfant et sont souvent contraints par l'offre d'accueil (manque de places, indisponibilité du service demandé, refus). Plus de 12% des familles sont insatisfaites du mode de conciliation adopté. Nous montrons notamment que le temps partiel ne permet pas toujours de faciliter la conciliation et peut, à l'inverse, la rendre plus difficile lorsqu'il est contraint, associé à des horaires atypiques ou irréguliers, et qu'il procure un revenu faible.
