Historique et reflexif, ce travail reexamine les theses et les debats les plus saillants de la methodologie economique au XXeme siecle jusqu'a 1970 environ. Il s'attache plus particulierement a la periode de l'entre-deux geurres et de l'immediat apres-guerre. Il traite successivement de l'apriorisme des annees vignt, avec von Mides, Knight et Robbins, des debuts du positivisme logique en economie, avec Hutchison et Samuelson, enfin de la querelle sur le realisme des hypotheses declachee par Friedman et Machlup.
