Cet article suggere qu'au cours de son developpement, depuis la fin du 19e siecle jusqu'au triomphe de la "methode Cowles", la modelisation econometrique a connu le passage d'une modelisation "unitaire", indissociable du determinisme et du reductionnisme, a une modelisation "fragmentaire", privilegiant la reproduction du reel. La modelisation econometrique peut alors s'inscrire dans l'histoire plus generale de la modelisation, telle que l'a analysee Giorgio Israel.
