Nation-Building after World War Two : Postcolonialism, Postcommunism, and Postfascism Compared

Abstract

This article compares processes of nation-building at three historical junctures in the postwar period : postcolonialism, postcommunism, and postfacism. The comparison is organized around three analytical dimensions of nation-building : modular adaptation, state-making, and primordialization. The purpose is to apply recent conceptuual developments in the study of nations and nationalism to selected historical fields, and to sensitize to the plurality and contextual boundedness of nation-building processes.
