Directorate General II - Economic and Financial Affairs
Abstract
The following fact sheets provide an overview of the state of preparations for the changeover of public administrations to the euros as of 15 May 1998. All eleven participating Member States are now in the process of enacting euro-related legislation which will come into force on 1 January 1999. They will all allow a wide range of "euro-options", at least for enterprises, i.e. the optional use of the euro unit for such areas as accounting, annual reports, obligatory statistics and taxation, for example.
