Abstract

This commissioned Report for the UK National Consumer Council examines the case for future adaptation of UK credit union legislation to enable the UK credit union industry scope for further growth and development. The Report contains a detailed economic analysis of the UK credit union industry, and places emphasis on the importance of a 'dual schedule' approach to future legislation whereby larger asset sized credit unions and the smaller asset based credit unions have legislation suitable to their distinctive needs. The main recommendations of the Report are for future legislation to support the establishment of a Central Finance Facility, a Deposit Insurance Scheme, greater product diversification and loosening of the common bond The full Report is available for download.
