Envejecimiento: pesimistas, optimistas, realistas
Abstract
En la primera parte del articulo analizamos cuales son las principales fuerzas que están detrás del proceso de envejecimiento en el que están envueltas todas las economías desarrolladas. Identificamos la esperanza de vida a partir de los 65 años como el factor determinante del proceso. En la segunda parte estudiamos en qué medida los individuos están adaptando su ciclo vital a la nueva realidad demográfica que les permite vivir por más años y mejores condiciones que las generaciones previas. Sorprendentemente, vemos que la dinámica que han seguido los individuos a lo largo de las últimas décadas ha sido la de vivir durante más tiempo, posponiendo decisiones vitales como la emancipación, la formación del hogar y la decisión de maternidad, pero al mismo tiempo trabajando durante menos tiempo. En resumen, la causa del envejecimiento es, sin duda una buena noticia, al ser fruto del aumento de la longevidad. El pesimismo surge al analizar cómo están adaptando los individuos su ciclo vital a una vida más longeva y sus efectos sobre la sostenibilidad financiera de los sistemas de pensiones de reparto. El realismo nos lleva a congratularnos por el aumento en la esperanza de vida, pero al mismo tiempo a plantear la necesidad de que se lleven a cabo reformas en los sistemas de pensiones para conseguir que los individuos adapten sus decisiones a la nueva realidad demográfica.Download Info
