Abstract

This working paper updates the social capital database relative to Spain, its regions and provinces elaborated jointly by the BBVA Foundation and the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas (Ivie). It follows the methodology developed by Pérez García et al. (2005) and updates the coverage of the database so that it includes the periods 1964-2005, for Spain, and 1983-2005, for the regions and provinces. We describe the theoretical model that supports the indicator and presents both the empirical methodology and the improvements in the calculation of the social capital index. Finally, we include an appendix with the new series.
