A Green Economy And New Challenges In Romania

The paper presents the importance of the green economy for Romania in the context of sustainable development. It is known the critical state of environment, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources and population’s poverty. These phenomena are manifesting almost in all Europe that which was established introducing and reinforcing policies and joint actions for achieving economic transformations. EU 2020 Strategy promotes green economy (bio economy) as one of the important tools for intelligent and green growth. The Bio economy Strategy focuses on large areas: the investment in research innovation and skills, the reinforcement of policy interaction and stakeholder engagement and the enhancement of markets and competitiveness in green sectors. The cross-sectorial nature of the bio economy generates opportunity to approach the major systemic challenges as food security, limited natural resources, dependence on fossil resources and climate changes. Concerning Romania there are sectors as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, as well as parts of chemical, biotechnological and energy industries what have a large innovation potential based on sciences (life sciences, agronomy, food science, social sciences) enabling and industrial technologies(biotechnology, information and communication technologies) and local knowledge. The present paper proposes to analyses different policy priorities and financial possibilities of bio-economic development in Romania. The transition to a bio economy will footprint on qualifications and competences systems with economic and social impacts of the university programme and curricula.
