Abstract

We use Kronenberg (2007) approach, which consists of applying regional employment quotients to the UK I-O table in order to derive the regional matrix of inter-industry transactions and of an indirect estimation of regional cross-hauling in order to obtain estimates for regional exports and imports. We estimated total exports for the Manufacturing industries for 2004 of £4.56 billion –quite similar to the £4.53 billion figure reported by NISRA in the Northern Ireland Manufacturing Sales and Exports Survey for 2004/5. The paper presents results for nine sectors for illustration purposes, but it can be easily extended to the 123 industry and product groups into which the UK I-O tables are disaggregated.
