Abstract

Las encuestas de hogares utilizadas en los países de América Latina para cuantificar los principales indicadores sociales tienen un diseño complejo, que se caracteriza por ser estratificado, de múltiples etapas y con probabilidades de inclusión no uniformes. Las estimaciones elaboradas a partir de estas operaciones estadísticas están sujetas al error muestral, lo que hace necesario evaluar su validez estadística mediante diversos indicadores de precisión y confiabilidad. Este documento describe un conjunto de criterios para evaluar la confiabilidad estadística de los indicadores estimados mediante encuestas de hogares. Su aplicación se ilustra mediante el cálculo de diferentes variables de interés para la población identificada como inmigrante. Se utiliza información reciente de 16 países, proveniente de las encuestas de hogares armonizadas del Banco de Datos de Encuestas de Hogares (BADEHOG) de la CEPAL.
