Determinantes Socio Económicos de la Criminalidad en Chile durante los Noventa

Abstract

Este trabajo entrega contundente evidencia de que la criminalidad en Chile presenta una alta persistencia. No obstante lo anterior, existe un conjunto de variables socio económicas que explican la evolución de la mayoría de los crímenes de connotación pública en Chile durante la década de los noventa. Los resultados muestran que la tasa de desempleo está positivamente correlacionada con el nivel de crimen como así también el nivel de ingreso de las personas. Por otra parte, la tasa de escolaridad está negativamente asociada al nivel de crímenes exceptuando el caso de las denuncias por drogas. Los resultados encontrados muestran que las variables mencionadas tienen un impacto mayor en las denuncias en drogas aunque con el signo opuesto respecto a los demás tipos de crímenes.
