Abstract

Direct investment in the country is an international investment, in which the direct investor, resident of a foreign economy, acquires a lasting interest (at least 10 % of the equity) in an enterprise resident of the Bulgarian economy (direct investment enterprise). There are two main cases of equity investment as follows: privatization and other transactions. In Bulgaria government economic policies were so designed as to pursue the attraction of foreign investments as a key goal. The first Foreign Investment Act was adopted in 1991. In the paper are represented trends of FDI in Bulgaria since 1991 until 2002. The dynamics of FDI inflows in Bulgaria is treated from the perspective of finding econometric relationships that explain it. They are used as a means of forecasting future development of FDI inflows.
