Abstract

Varios indicadores señalan la mayor gravedad de la pobreza rural en Argentina. Utilizando las encuestas ISCA (2002), este trabajo investiga las causas de la brecha urbano-rural aplicando técnicas de descomposiciones. Empleando dichas técnicas se intenta cuantificar, primero, la contribución de los diferentes determinantes de los ingresos laborales a la brecha de indigencia. Segundo, se estudian las causas de las diferencias urbano-rural en términos de un indicador alternativo de pobreza: el hambre. Uno de los principales resultados encontrados es que las diferentes estructuras educativas de ambas zonas explicarían un porcentaje importante de la brecha de pobreza y de hambre.
