With the health care reform of the year 2004 in mind and coming from a multidimensional conception of poverty the article asks for the contribution of the welfare state institutions to the prevention of poverty. To answer the question the interrelation between income poverty and health care is analysed. The undertaken analyses show that the interrelation did increase in the years subsequent to the health care reform of the year 2004.
