Abstract

In de EMU vormt het arbeidsmarktbeleid het belangrijkste instrumentarium om op nationaal niveau asymmetrische schokken op te vangen. De algemene beleidswens daarbij is om - in overeenstemming met de Lissabon strategie - de arbeidsmarktflexibiliteit te verhogen. Tussen de EMU-lidstaten bestaan echter flinke institutionele verschillen die hun invloed hebben op de doorwerking van schokken in de economie. Dit betekent dat de noodzaak tot vergroting van de arbeidsmarktflexibiliteit en de daarbij in te zetten specifieke beleidsmaatregelen van land tot land verschillen. Dit artikel bespreekt deze verschillen op basis van de literatuur met speciale aandacht voor de betekenis daarvan voor de Europese beleidsco”rdinatie.
