Abstract

Le début des années septante a vu aboutir l’étude rigoureuse et complète de la théorie de l’équilibre général concurrentiel, théorie qui remonte à Walras et à laquelle sont associés les noms de Arrow et Debreu. L’axiome clef de cette théorie est que les prix s’ajustent librement de manière à assurer l’égalité entre l’offre et la demande sur tous les marchés. Dans son interprétation la plus large, elle suppose que les agents économiques ont accès à un système complet de marchés à terme, ce qui conduit à un modèle essentiellement atemporel : tous les contrats sont conclus au début des temps et il n’y a pas d’incitant à rouvrir les marchés par la suite. Deux révolutions sont récemment intervenues en théorie économique, dont les effets combinés ont permis de résoudre des problèmes qu’il n’était pas possible d’aborder dans le cadre des approches précédentes.
