Seguimiento al desarrollo tecnológico a través de patentes el caso de la biotecnología

Abstract

Considerando la relevancia de la biotecnología en la industria mundial y su impacto en el crecimiento económico, este ensayo se centra en analizar el uso de la información de patentes biotecnológicas para determinar las tendencias de desarrollo tecnológico y como indicador de innovación, al ser las patentes una importante fuente de información tecnológica relativamente actualizada y disponible. Para ello, se revisa el tema de la propiedad intelectual, con énfasis en los sistemas de patentes, y su relación e impacto en la biotecnología. Así mismo, se ejemplifica el empleo de la información de patentes para determinar tendencias mediante el uso de técnicas de vigilancia tecnológica en un área particular. Por último, se plantean algunas consideraciones sobre el uso de las patentes como indicador de innovación y como base para analizar el desarrollo tecnológico en un campo determinado.
