Abstract

Quattro conflitti armati hanno segnato il panorama delle relazioni internazionali nel periodo post-bipolare: la Guerra nel Golfo Persico (1991), quella in Kossovo (1999), in Afghanistan (2001) e, nuovamente, in Iraq nel 2003. Di questi, il primo è stato probabilmente il più rilevante, sia per l’eccezionalità di alcuni aspetti che lo hanno caratterizzato, sia per il profondo dibattito a cui ha dato origine1. Come si avrà modo di constatare più approfonditamente nelle pagine che seguono, gli insegnamenti che si è cercato di apprendere dai conflitti del momento unipolare sono stati tutt’altro che chiari e univoci. Per quanto sia sempre difficile trarre insegnamenti dalle guerre del passato – e, si potrebbe aggiungere, ancor più difficile trarre i giusti insegnamenti – analisti e studiosi hanno formulato diverse ipotesi in merito al modo in cui in futuro verrà esercitata la guerra.
