Abstract

Los orígenes del Mercado Común del Sur (Mercosur) se remontan a un encuentro en Foz Iguazú en 1985 entre los presidentes de Argentina, Raúl Ricardo Alfonsín y de Brasil, José Sarney. Para 1986 queda refrendada por ambos gobiernos el Acta para la Integración Argentino-Brasileña; que involucra el Programa de Integración Económica (PICE). En 1988, se avanza sobre el tratado de Integración, Cooperación y Desarrollo entre Argentina y Brasil que se comprometen a promover mediante la liberalización comercial, la creación de un espacio común en dos etapas: zona de libre comercio por un máximo de diez años y mercado común.
