Eso representa un desafío mayor para que países como China e India sostengan su alto crecimiento frente las restricciones energéticas. Cabe notar también que la concentración de reservas energéticas en áreas de inestabilidad política, como Rusia y Medio Oriente, es cada vez mayor. Este cuadro estimula una creciente disputa por el control de las fuentes de energía en todo el mundo, lo que, a su vez, impulsa la nacionalización de las reservas de hidrocarburos en varios países. El tema de la seguridad energética (nacional, regional y global) será cada vez más relevante en las relaciones internacionales.
