Abstract

The introduction of the new benchmark compilation 2003 for measuring the national accounts raised the necessity of splicing the main aggregates, of series 1986-2002 based on 1986 and 1996 references, with the new series 2003-2006. Following the recommendations of the System of National Accounts 1993, a simple method was used in order to obtain the new annual GDP series and its expenditure components, in constant and current prices for the period 1986-2002. These results were temporally disaggregated trhough a variant of the Denton method, which yielded new consistent quarterly national accounts series with the annual data. The residual resulting from non-additivity of the spliced series was not distributed among GDP components; instead, it is explicitly shown with the other results.
