Abstract
The aim of this paper is to contribute for the debate about Goias State System of Innovation presenting data on the technological (INPI patents) and scientific dimension (scientific papers indexed by the ISI) and theoretical arguments that enable us highlight the economic importance of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás (FAPEGO) creation, a government institution for research funding. The investment in scientific research in the state of Goias to build a scientific infrastructure and to help the technological advance will contribute to initiate a catching up process.
