Abstract

------------------------------------------ The present study analyses the main strategic behavior of the companies which belong to Dourados’ fish productive chain in Mato Grosso do Sul. The survey also evaluates the chain’s competitiveness toward the strategic behavior of those companies. The adopted survey methodology was the inductive method throughout exploratory survey accomplished in that region, added to scientific literature, survey based on SEAP and IBAMA data. The scientific literature identifies the pattern of possible strategic behavior adopted by chain’s agents. The results that were found point to a productive chain in initial stage of organization and a strategic behavior based on costs domination. This strategy is being potentialized by the gradual growth of production scale and by the learning effect. The differentiation strategy practice is still budding and begins to be verified in phases of alevinagem e filetagem.
