    Abstract

    O trabalho tem por objetivo evidenciar as dinâmicas regionais diferenciadas no Rio Grande do Sul, destacando características distintas entre três regiões do estado. São feitos testes de comparação de médias para distinguir as características nos indicadores de desempenho, nas estruturas demográfica, fundiária e produtiva, entre a Região Sul, Região Norte e o Eixo que compreende a Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre (RMPA) e a Aglomeração de Caxias do Sul (ACS). A seguir, procura-se compreender os fatores explicativos dos processos desiguais de desenvolvimento a partir de elementos vinculados aos espaços rurais, considerando um conjunto de indicadores nas três dimensões: demográfica, fundiária e produtiva. Pode-se, com isto, identificar o efeito de cada um dos indicadores sobre o índice de desenvolvimento humano (IDH) e seus componentes. Os resultados sinalizam para a importância de uma análise dos efeitos combinados, dada a complexidade dos processos de desenvolvimento, uma vez que os efeitos individuais de cada indicador são pequenos.
