Abstract

--------------------------------------------The pineapple is the largest genus of the family Bromeliaceae, the economic point of view. The variety "Pérola" is the most grown in Brazil and is produced in almost all the regions and states of the federation. Depending on the importance of that fruit, this study aims to provide an overview regarding the value of exports, hectarage and value of production of pineapple in Brazil, with emphasis on Goiás, as well as, analyze the seasonal behavior in the price of Pineapple "Pérola" marketed in the CEASA-GO - for the period from 1999 to 2007, identifying the seasons existing and possible causes of the observed variation. For that used to the methodology of Hoffmann (1980), "Determination of the pattern of seasonal variation in a time series" and data made available by CEASA-GO. As a result it was observed that due to the effects of photoperiod, the months of January to April showed seasonal indexes higher prices during the year. The understanding of these factors becomes relevant in the light of most of the consumption of this fruit is given in order in natura. Furthermore, knowledge of the factors responsible for the effects of seasonality in the price of pineapple "Pérola", marketed in the CEASA-GO, will enable a more effective prospecting around market forecasts.
