Abstract

Finalmente apresentamos sugestões de como valorizar a tecnologia ou o ramo da ciência e tecnologia na aglutinação de forças da sociedade em prol do desenvolvimento do Sistema de Produção Agroindustrial de Frutas Tropicais Nativas e Exóticas.-------------------------------This paper deals with the problem of how the agribusiness of native and exotic tropical fruits in the State of Bahia, Brazil, can obtain sustainable development in the long run.The results of a simulation study on the impact of sixteen selected variables, named elements of success, relating to four known problems or barriers to the development of the fruit agribusiness, showed technology to be the main factor that can contribute to the success of this agribusiness. A complementary study was carried out on the use of the usual development policies to solve development bottlenecks that exist on the agribusiness production chains “cadeias de produção”. Finally suggestions are made on how to capitalize on the power of technology and/or the branch of science and technology to insure the development of native and exotic tropical fruit agribusiness.
