Commissioned by the Dutch Product Board for Livestock, Meat and Eggs, LEI has carried out an international comparative study of the production costs in pig farming in the year 2004. Also the cost increases expected until 2013 resulting from policy measures are examined. The study also includes an indication for all studied countries of the supply chain costs to deliver pork to the German market. The Netherlands have a favourable production costs position, but, more than other EU countries, have to deal with increasing costs because of policy measures.
