O objetivo deste trabalho é realizar um estudo sobre a localização industrial nos Estados da Região Sul do Brasil, no período de 1980 a 1995, a partir da adequação de modelo teórico já existente sobre localização industrial. Fundamentando-se na vasta literatura sobre o tema procurar-se-á fazer breves comentários sobre a teoria, buscando apenas mostrá-la de forma simples e sucinta, de modo que os resultados obtidos da aplicação do modelo se torne mais fácil o entendimento. Para alcançar os objetivos propostos recorreu-se à metodologia proposta por Walter Isard no trabalho "Methods of Regional Analysis", na qual se destaca o quociente locacional como um instrumento utilizado para comparar atividades específicas com qualquer agregado básico.
