Abstract

The period studied in this paper is 1850-1880. This work presents the social and economic evolution of a group of germany families that came to Brazil like coffee farm workers. They came in the middle XIXth century, and were installed on Ibicaba, an important property of Vergueiro & Company. They worked on coffee plantations, like "partners", under the system called "sistema de parceria". After four years working on Ibicaba, they went to Piracicaba, a city of São Paulo State. They had management feeling, and knowledge about productive techniques. With these predicatives, they knew how to get money. They built houses to sell, and formed many enterprises on industry and commerce in Piracicaba. Their business and history can illustrate how, and with what ways, many workers from Europe got success on Brazil.
