IKT-Infrastruktur: Potential, Nutzung und Wirtschaftsentwicklung

Abstract

Anhand von Daten über den Ausbau des Telekom Austria Breitbandnetzes sowie über die Beschäftigungsentwicklung auf Gemeindeebene wird mithilfe von ökonometrischen Methoden versucht, einen Zusammenhang zwischen Breitbandausbau und regionalem Wirtschaftswachstum zu finden. Obwohl in der theoretischen wie auch empirischen Literatur unbestritten ist, dass eine gute Infrastrukturausstattung für eine gute Wirtschaftsentwicklung und eine hohe Produktivität notwendig ist, wird eine empirische Überprüfung dieser Hypothese auf kleinräumiger Ebene dadurch erschwert, dass regionalwirtschaftliches Wachstum von einer Vielzahl an Faktoren beeinflusst wird. Dennoch kann erste empirische Evidenz dafür gewonnen werden, dass eine gut ausgebaute Breitbandinfrastruktur förderlich für die Wirtschaftsentwicklung einer Region ist.
