Las Barreras al Crecimiento Económico en Loreto

Abstract

El crecimiento de Loreto en las ultimas cinco décadas ha atravesado por cuatro fases. En una primera etapa, desde los años 60 hasta mediados de la década del 70, la región creció a tasas bajas. En una segunda etapa, breve, entre 1974 y comienzos de la década del 80, la región crece a tasas impresionantemente altas debido principalmente al auge de la actividad petrolera . En este periodo el PBI per cápita se triplicaría. En la tercera etapa, que va desde principios de la década del 80 hasta comienzos de los 2000, la economía se estanca. En el periodo se sufre una profunda contracción hasta 1992, luego una lenta recuperación y una nueva contracción después de 1998. En consecuencia se registra una caída fuertísima en el PBI per cápita (en el año 2010 solo se había recuperado el nivel de 1988). Finalmente, en una cuarta etapa, la economía crece a tasas moderadas, aunque sin interrupciones y acompañada por una importante expansión del empleo y del sector privado.
