Horas de trabajo: determinantes y dinámica en el Perú urbano

Abstract

El problema del empleo tiene múltiples dimensiones en nuestro país. A las penurias del desempleo, subempleo e informalidad laboral, hay que agregarle el exceso de horas trabajadas. El presente estudio encuentra que las jornadas de trabajo excesivamente largas son, en gran medida, una respuesta forzada a la crisis del empleo y la caída en las remuneraciones reales por hora experimentada en las últimas décadas. La evidencia econométrica es robusta y estima una sorprendente curva de oferta de horas de trabajo de pendiente negativa. Finalmente, se presenta algunas consecuencias negativas del exceso de horas trabajadas sobre el nivel de bienestar de los trabajadores y sus familias.
