Abstract

Esta obra analiza los efectos que la llamada nueva economía -que engloba el conjunto de recientes cambios en el desarrollo de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC)- ha tenido sobre el transporte tanto en el plano tecnológico cuanto en el económico y social. A pesar de los numerosos estudios previos suscitados por tales cambios, hasta la fecha son escasos los dedicados a los efectos producidos sobre el transporte de mercancías y viajeros. Este déficit de investigación es particularmente relevante por tratarse de un sector muy afectado por la introducción de las nuevas tecnologías y por constituir un servicio esencial para la actividad económica, tanto en su acepción de input intermedio utilizado en la mayor parte de los procesos de producción, como por ser un elemento necesario que nos facilita el acceso a nuestras actividades más cotidianas: trabajo, compras, ocio... Además de cubrir una importante laguna en el estudio de las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones, la obra, que combina el rigor en el tratamiento del tema con un notable esfuerzo pedagógico y divulgativo, hace accesible el tema a un amplio espectro de lectores.
