Österreichs Außenhandel mit den EU-Beitrittsländern

Abstract

Die Europäische Union wird am 1. Mai um 10 Länder erweitert. Die Analyse des Außenhandels mit diesen Ländern seit Anfang der neunziger Jahre zeigt, dass die österreichische Außenwirtschaft bisher die Möglichkeiten auf diesen Märkten gut ausgeschöpft hat. Die Nachfrage aus den Beitrittsländern wurde zur maßgeblichen Stütze des Außenhandels, die Marktstellung ist vor allem in den Nachbarstaaten besonders stark. Eine fortschreitende vertikale Arbeitsteilung, die mit einem erhöhten Bezug von kostengünstigen Vorleistungen einhergeht, verbessert die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit österreichischer Produkte im Ausland. Die Chancen wurden vor allem in technologieorientierten, skillintensiven und qualitätsorientierten Branchen genutzt. Dies unterstützt den Strukturwandel in Richtung anspruchsvoller Produkte, wie er für die mittel- bis langfristige Erhaltung und Steigerung der internationalen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit einer Volkswirtschaft unerlässlich ist.
