Österreichs EU-Beitritt – Politische Ökonomie und offene Fragen

Abstract

Österreichs Bevölkerung ist knapp zwei Jahre nach dem Beitritt des Landes zur Europäischen Union zur Wahl der österreichischen Europa-Parlamentarier aufgerufen. Die Wahl findet vor dem Hintergrund mancher Enttäuschungen über tatsächliche oder vermeintliche Effekte der bisherigen Mitgliedschaft statt. Insbesondere wirtschaftliche Erwartungen scheinen sich nicht erfüllt zu haben. Die folgenden Überlegungen sollen plausibel machen, daß die Integrationseffekte sich nicht in verhältnismäßig kurzer Frist resümieren lassen, daß sie sich nicht auf die empirisch meßbaren Effekte und schon gar nicht auf rein ökonomische Prozesse beschränken.
