Sinkende Lohnstückkosten erhöhen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Industrie

Abstract

Mäßige Lohnzuwächse und rascher Produktivitätsfortschritt haben der österreichischen Industrie in den letzten zehn Jahren beträchtliche Vorteile im internationalen Kostenwettbewerb verschafft. Diese Verbesserung der relativen Lohnstückkostenposition wurde allerdings zeitweise von starken Wechselkursänderungen überlagert. Anders als noch vor vier Jahren kostet nun die Arbeitstunde in Österreich mehr als in den USA, in Frankreich oder Italien. 1988 hat sich die Wettbewerbsposition Österreichs wieder gefestigt, sie sollte sich auch heuer weiter verbessern.
