Tamaño y composición del hogar, ocupación y pobreza en América Latina urbana

Abstract

En América Latina un hogar urbano puede ser pobre por cualquiera de varias razones: porque su ingreso total es demasiado bajo; porque muchos de sus miembros son mal pagados; y porque gran número de niños u otros miembros deben ser forzosamente dependientes, aun si el ingreso total es relativamente alto. Estas explicaciones alternativas de la pobreza están relacionadas, pero no son idénticas; y distintas explicaciones dan lugar a diferentes medios para identificar a los pobres y para idear maneras de ayudarlos. La investigación presente pretende separar los efectos del tamaño del hogar, de la composición de la familia y de la condición del empleo de los miembros del hogar sobre la pobreza, en diez ciudades de cinco países andinos. La información empleada proviene de encuestas de presupuestos familiares en esas ciudades en 1966 - 1969.
