Financiamiento gubernamental, emisión e impuesto inflación

Abstract

En diversos países latinoamericanos, una de las principales fuentes de financiamiento del gobierno la constituye la emisión de dinero proveniente del Banco Central. A su vez, en varios países y en diversos períodos de tiempo, las magnitudes requeridas han contribuido a expandir la demanda agregada, en forma tal, que han creado o ayudado a mantener procesos inflacionarios. La literatura económica ha estudiado este último fenómeno desde diversos ángulos, pero sólo recientemente se ha abordado su estudio desde el punto de vista fiscal, esto es, analizando la inflación como un impuesto cobrado a los mantenedores de saldos monetarios. Durante los últimos años, la economía chilena ha enfrentado un recrudecimiento del proceso inflacionario, el que, por las magnitudes alcanzadas, ha estado estrechamente asociado al ritmo de crecimiento de los medios de pago, los cuales, a su vez, han presentado una alta correlación con la actuación del estado como agente económico.
