Abstract

By disaggregating the Midi-Pyrenees region into 18 different local labour markets, we have highlighted wage differentials which can be completely explained neither by structural effects related to the sectoral distribution of the firms nor by the individual characteristics of the local manpower. This study, carried out using social administrative data on the workforce of firms, emphasizes specific area effects, the most outstanding being a size effect: the more important the working population, the higher the wages.
