Abstract

DAVIDSSON P., LINDMARK L. and OLOFSSON C. (1994) New firm formation and regional development in Sweden, Reg. Studies 28, 395--410. This paper reports the main findings from a comprehensive investigation of the role of small and new firms in the Swedish economy. Special attention is devoted to the analysis of regional variations in the rate of new firm formation. The results not only show that a major share of this variation can be explained by structural characteristics of the regions, but also that the relative importance of the determinants vary by sector. Our data confirm that small firms are a major contributor of new jobs. It further turns out that new firm formation has an important influence on the development of regional economic well-being.xs DAVIDSSON P., LINDMARK L. et OLOFSSON C. (1994) La création de nouvelles entreprises et l'aménagement du territoire en Suède, Reg. Studies 28, 395--410.
